L-Lysine 500mg - 200 (2x100) Tablets

What is L-Lysine and how does it work?

Lysine is an amino acid. It is an essential amino acid, which means that the human body cannot make it. You have to get lysine from food or supplements. Amino acids like lysine are the building blocks of protein. Lysine is important for proper growth, and it plays an essential role in the production of carnitine, a nutrient responsible for converting fatty acids into energy and helping to lower cholesterol. Lysine appears to help the body absorb calcium, and it plays an important role in the formation of collagen, a substance important for bones and connective tissues including skin, tendon, and cartilage.[1]

Benefits of L-Lysine:
Blood Pressure - Limited studies suggest that a high-lysine diet or L-lysine monochloride supplements may have a moderating effect on blood pressure and the incidence of stroke.

Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) - It has been suggested that lysine may be beneficial for those with herpes simplex infections.

Anxiety - Lysine has a known anxiolytic action (a drug used for the treatment of anxiety) through its effects on serotonin receptors in the intestinal tract.
According to animal studies, lysine deficiency causes immunodeficiency.

Osteoporosis - Lysine helps the body absorb calcium and decreases the amount of calcium that is lost in urine. Because calcium is crucial for bone health, some researchers think lysine may help prevent bone loss associated with osteoporosis. Lab studies suggest that lysine in combination with L-arginine (another amino acid) makes bone building cells more active and enhances production of collagen.

The nutritional requirement per day, in milligrams of lysine per kilogram of body weight, is: infants (3ï¾–4 months) 103, children (2 years) 64, older children (10ï¾–12 years) 60 to 44, adults 12. For a 70 kg adult, 12 milligrams of lysine per kilogram of body weight is 0.84 grams of lysine. [2]
